Summer Position Available with Sport Calgary

Job Title: Assistant Communications Specialist
Hourly Wage: $18.00
Number of Weeks: up to 16
Number of Hours per Week: 36


 To assist with or participate in, some or all of the following:

  • Writing and research for purposes of updating Sport Calgary website

  • Local sport events for populating online event calendar

  • Newsworthy sport stories to feature on website “news” section

  • Update database of sport related grants and award opportunities for athletes

  • Source and write-up sport human-interest stories

  • Collaboration on marketing and communications ideas/opportunities/materials

  • Prepare electronic newsletters and other materials (certificates, letters, etc.) for distribution

  • Collaboration on sponsorship proposals

  • Organization/updating of databases

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the business; maintain a high standard of excellence and commitment to service

  • Assist in increasing the profile of amateur sport in Calgary

  • The position will work closely with the Director, Marketing & Communications on a day-to-day basis, including direct supervision and mentoring

  • A health and safety orientation as well as any necessary WHMIS training will be provided

  • Some evening and Saturday hours may be required. (Sport Calgary has a lieu-time policy)

  • Maintain Sport Calgary’s standard of excellence and be a positive role model for our vision, values and commitment to service

  • Assist with other tasks as required


  • A student in progress toward a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to a small work team setting

  • Excellent computer literacy; graphic design skills are an asset

  • Strong communication skills. The ability and comfort level to clearly communicate with member organizations, participants, parents, volunteers and event partners over the phone, via email and in-person.

  • Familiarity with Calgary and its amateur sport scene is an asset

  • Access to a vehicle (if possible)

  • Must be returning to school in the fall
