The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a not for profit organization governed by a Board of Directors dedicated to celebrating and preserving Alberta's sport history. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Red Deer Alberta.

Job Description 

The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Executive Director. As the full time Executive Director, you will play a key leadership role in the day-to-day operations of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

Position: Executive Director 

Reports To: Chair, Board of Directors 

Permanent: Full Time

Scope of Position

The Executive Director works with the Board of Director and the ASFHM team to provide overall leadership and strategic direction to achieve the goals as outlined in the ASHFM Business Plan as approved by the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

General

  • Sole liaison to the Board of Directors 

  • Develop and implement the ASHFM Business Plan 

  • Establishes and leads fund raising initiatives under the guidance of the Board 

  • Leads the development and implementation of policies and programs

  • Responsible for operations of the ASHFM building 

  • Responsible for all aspects of human resource management 

  • Leads Public Relations aspects and Marketing of the Hall of Fame 

Business Operations 

  • Responsible for all aspects of the financial management and reporting to the Board of Directors 

  • Presents annual budget to the Board of Directors for their approval 

  • Responsible for reporting to Revenue Canada, Charities Act, Societies Act and other government agencies 

  • Responsible for all aspects of payroll

Leadership

  • Provide leadership, direction and support to Staff through effective communication, goal-setting, delegation and performance management

  • Identify and develop strategic and operational priorities in conjunction with the Board and Staff 

  • Identify and mitigate risks, seek opportunities for enhancing outcomes and ensure ongoing implementation of objectives 

Relationship Building

  • Responsible to liaison with Provincial Sport Associations, three orders of governments, and the Alberta Sport Connection to maintain working protocols. 

  • Maintain a network of professional contacts in Provincial, National and International Museums and Sports Halls of Fame 

  • Build positive relationships with sponsors, community leaders and education institutions 

  • Responsible for Joint Agreement with Tourism Red Deer 

  • Ensures positive professional communication both internally and externally 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of business management experience 

  • Demonstrated people management and organizational skills with ability to prioritize, multi-task and make effective decisions 

  • Proven capacity to develop and manage major projects to successful completion 

  • Ability to develop realistic long and short term goals and work efficiently and effectively toward their attainment 

  • Knowledge of sports system 

  • Understanding of the not for profit sector and the importance of sustainability 

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, consultation and conflict resolution skills 

  • Able to work as a team member but also a self starter 

  • Proficient computer skills, Windows, Digital platforms and Google suite

  • Public relations / marketing experience and an accounting background are definite assets

  • Respect of, and strong reputation with provincial and national sport leaders in a similar capacity

  • Must have a valid Alberta driver's license
