Supervisor, Arena Operations at WinSport

What the role is all about:

The Supervisor, Arenas is responsible for the icemaking, maintenance and arena operation in the Markin MacPhail Centre. The Supervisor, Arena Maintenance leads the ice maintenance team, as well as, general building maintenance while liaising with the building ops, events and custodial departments.


  • Ice resurfacing operations and equipment maintenance

  • Ice installation and removal

  • Provide leadership and direction while supervising and scheduling the arena maintenance team

  • Mentor and performance manage arenas team

  • Reconcile timesheets for payroll

  • Facility maintenance including a variety of tasks such as cleaning dressing rooms, stands and lobby, and bathrooms replenishing as needed, as well as, wash and wax floors as required and the exterior maintenance of sidewalks and parking lot

  • Assist in the facility booking process as needed

  • Answer inquiries and complaints from the general public by telephone or in person

  • Work in coordination with events team for tournaments and special events

  • Work in coordination with the plant operators to ensure consistency in ice making operations

  • Work in coordination with the custodial department for replenishing of cleaning supplies and materials

  • Work in coordination with the building ops department to ensure consistency of HVAC, life safety, lighting, and potable water systems

  • Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualified candidates will have completed education in a Recreation Facility Management Program with related experience. Equivalencies in education or experience will be considered.  Candidates should also demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 7 years experience in arena operations of a multi pad facility

  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of arena and refrigeration

  • Arena Level II or Equivalent Provincial Ticket

  • 4th class power engineering ticket considered an asset

  • Forklift operations ticket

  • Valid First Aid, CPR / AED and WHMIS training

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and professional, both written and oral; able to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with tenants, internal staff,. contractors, supplies and the public

  • Time management skills with an ability to work in an environment with changing priorities

  • Able to develop new ideas with a focus on best practices

Work Conditions:

  • Able to participate in on call schedule

  • Must lift or carry up to 10 pounds continuously, 50 pounds frequently

  • Must be able to work on slippery surfaces frequently

  • Must be able to walk long distances on even and uneven surfaces continuously

  • Must be able to work in a variety of climates including extreme cold and warm weather

  • Shift work
