Lindsay Park Sports Society awards $16,250 in Bursaries to 18 outstanding Amateur Athletes at the Bursary Award Celebration

Repsol Sport Centre, one of Canada’s leading training, competition and fitness facilities, invites its fellow Members, Sport Partners and Calgarians to join Lindsay Park Sports Society (LPSS) and Repsol Sport Centre on Thursday, April 26th at their Bursary Awards and Donor Recognition Celebration.  This annual inspirational event acknowledges the amazing athletic achievements and dedication of its amateur athletes and salutes the donors that contribute to their success.

The evening’s program begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by a reception at 6:45 p.m., located at Repsol Sport Centre Sport Plaza.

As a leader in delivering amateur and high performance sport to Calgarians, Repsol Sport Centre is proud to honour its athletes with a total of $16,250 this year, funded by The John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund. Under careful deliberation and criteria examination, the LPSS Bursary Committee designated 18 amateur athletes to be recognized and financially rewarded for outstanding athletic achievement in support of their future training and competition goals.  The honourees are a mix of Olympic hopefuls, veterans and up and comers, representing 8 sports. There are 5 men and 13 women ranging from 13 to 37 years. Further, 83% of the recipients train 19 hours a week or more, and proudly call Repsol Sport Centre their home.

They are honoured to host the following guests and dignitaries:

·         John Currie, Lauchlan Currie (& family)

·         Jeromy Farkas, Councillor

·         Sheila Taylor, Executive Director of Parks Foundation Calgary

·         Greg Clark, MLA

“The John Currie Amateur Sport Bursary Program is an incredible initiative created for extraordinary athletes. About The John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund

In 1983, Calgary hosted its largest amateur sport competition, the Western Canada Summer Games, at Repsol Sport Centre, the flagship facility of the Games. At the conclusion of the successful event, the Games established a Legacy Fund of 250,000 with Lindsay Park Sports Society (LPSS) to support amateur athletes and amateur sport. Inspired by this commitment to amateur sport, LPSS raised funds from generous donors to increase the value of the Legacy Fund to $1 million, and named the fund in honour of John Currie, community champion and President of the 1983 Western Canada Summer Games.
