Local Autism Group, Comrie Sports Bank and Local Lacrosse Community come together for new Lacrosse Program

Calgary, Alberta – For more than 15 years, the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary (AAFS) has been a leader in providing innovative sport and recreation programming for individuals with autism. Over the past year alone, AAFS has piloted rugby, hockey and boxing programs. On April 5, AAFS will kick-off its new lacrosse program - AAFSLAX.

“We’ve done lacrosse a couple of times as part of our Sport Sampler programs and youth wanted more of an opportunity to experience the game,” says Scott Godfrey, AAFS Program Coordinator. “At AAFS, when our youth expresses an interest, we go out of our way to provide the opportunity.”

When it comes to sports like lacrosse and hockey, having the right equipment can be a barrier for many, thanks to the Comrie's Sports Equipment Bank, AAFS families won’t have to worry about that and their kids can simply play. Comrie's Sports Equipment Bank will be at the first session to outfit all of AAFS’ program participants from head to toe. The donations from Comrie’s will be supplemented by a few professional lacrosse teams and players, including members of the Calgary Roughnecks.

Media are invited to join AAFS, Comrie’s Sports Equipment Bank and the Calgary Roughnecks as they outfit all the youth at the first session of the AAFS lacrosse program, AAFSLAX
