SIRC Launches Community Activation Grants

OTTAWA, May 28, 2021 — The Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) is pleased to announce the launch of Community Activation Grants, a new program to mobilize concussion and safe sport resources at the community level across Canada. Eligible organizations can apply to receive grants up to $5,000 and champion sport safety in their communities.

The education and awareness of concussion and safe sport is supported by the Government of Canada. The federal government’s Budget 2021 also promotes an Active Recovery, with a focus on supporting community sports.

“Community sport organizations play a vital role in supporting an active and safe recovery, contributing to the mental and physical health of Canadians,” says Debra Gassewitz, SIRC President and CEO. “By providing communities with the right knowledge, tools and resources, we can harness the power of safe sport.”

The program enables successful grant recipients to share SIRC’s evidence-based resources in their communities to help promote safety in sport. These organizations will lead the development and dissemination of resources to address maltreatment and promote concussion awareness in their sport communities.

Not-for-profit organizations, clubs and community centres from Canada’s sport and physical activity sector are eligible to apply. Interested organizations are invited to contact Peter Morrow, SIRC’s Communications Specialist, and fill out the application form. The deadline for submissions is midnight Eastern Time on June 13, 2021.
